What counts as an emergency

  • · Difficulty breathing, blue gums, or collapse
  • · Hit by a vehicle, fall, or major trauma
  • · Suspected poisoning — chemicals, plants, foods, medications
  • · Bloated abdomen with retching but no vomit (especially in deep-chested dogs)
  • · Continuous seizures or seizures over 5 minutes
  • · Persistent vomiting or diarrhoea, especially with blood
  • · Eye injuries, severe bleeding, or unable to urinate
  • · Snake bite, severe allergic reaction

Before you leave home

  1. Call us — we'll prepare and advise on first-aid for transit.
  2. Don't induce vomiting unless we tell you to.
  3. For poisoning, bring the packaging or a photo of what was ingested.
  4. Keep your pet warm and minimise movement.
  5. If bleeding, apply firm pressure with a clean cloth.

Not sure if it's an emergency? Use Dr. Lily® for fast triage, or just call us.
